Making a Mark: Community Stories
Deluxe employees don't think twice about getting involved in the communities we serve. We've shared our generosity and time with individuals in need and charities from all walks of life. There are many stories to tell, but here are just a few that inspire and encourage us when we think about lending a helping hand.
Furnishing Frenzy
In 2006, Deluxe employees in Minnesota partnered with Bridging, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing economically disadvantaged families basic household needs. Many of the recipients are refugees, immigrants, and victims of natural disasters or family violence. More than 100 Deluxe employees spent the day working in shifts to assemble furniture, ranging from tables to dressers, from area furniture stores. When the day was done, a total of 115 pieces of new furniture had been assembled and sent to the organization - helping furnish the 100 households that Bridging assists weekly.

Reading Recovery
It is a special moment for a child when, with book in-hand, he or she is finally able to sound the words on a page and discover the story. Deluxe employee, Paul Brown, human resources manager in our Streetsboro, Ohio location, witnessed this first-hand last February while observing a Reading Recovery tutoring session at the elementary school down the block.
Deluxe employees in Streetsboro, including Paul, have been able to help young local readers by serving as volunteer readers at the neighborhood elementary school. In fact, plant volunteers routinely stroll down to read to students during their lunch breaks. The students are thrilled and the teachers are ecstatic with the extra help.
Brown, who had the opportunity to present a $75,000 check to the Reading Recovery Council of Northern America in 2007, said, "It was really nice to meet the kids Reading Recovery impacts and represent the Foundation and Deluxe employees who care about this program."
* Since November 2005, the Deluxe Corporation Foundation has donated $190,000 directly to the Reading Recovery program and provided approximately $100,000 to school districts to expand their Reading Recovery programs.

Relieving Greensburg
On May 5, 2007 a tornado wiped out 95 percent of a small Kansas town known as Greensburg. Without pause, Deluxe employees from our Lenexa, Kan. facility - nearly 300 miles away - were asking, "How can we help?"
Within days Deluxe partnered with Heart to Heart International, a leading global humanitarian organization, to collect items needed for the tornado victims. Not long after, the Deluxe family of volunteers collected and donated 180 pounds of personal care items and products, 320 pounds of tools and toolboxes as well as cash donations to provide relief to Greensburg citizens.
