Professional Logo Design For Business Consultants
A logo that speaks to your expertise
You understand the importance of an elevator pitch: Explain your services and the value you provide in 30 seconds, max. But did you know that your logo can do the same kind of heavy lifting, in fewer than five seconds? Neither one is meant to replace the other, but they work in tandem. A strong, unique brand symbol creates a positive first impression on clients and those inquiring about your services long before face-to-face communication even starts.
It’s crucial that every touch point with your potential client base comes across as well-planned, professional and reputable. Don’t let a weak logo — one that is generic, indistinguishable from the competition’s, badly designed or simply nonexistent — damage the professional image you’ve worked so hard to build.
What makes a successful business or consulting logo?
A logo’s success is determined by how well it measures up against the competition. Is it unique and unmistakably yours? Does it tell the viewer who you are and what you do? Does it look professionally designed, with a creative approach? Most importantly, does it invite the viewer to make contact?
To answer these questions in the positive, consider how typography, colors and imagery work together to create a strong emblem for your brand. Take a look at the services you provide and determine how you want to telegraph those to others.
Start with font choice, which factors heavily into business-related logos. Something playful like Comic Sans or a “handwritten” typeface is most likely inappropriate. Serif fonts indicate tradition, reliability and respectability — an excellent choice for many consulting businesses. Sans serif and modern typefaces signify stability, style and forward thinking. Scripted fonts, if not too frilly, can indicate luxury and elegance; working one into a business logo is trickier but not impossible.
Also important to pin down are the colors to use. Blues are very common in business logos (think HP, Visa, GE and IBM) because it conveys Intelligence and efficiency. Black says sophistication and security; red adds strength and warmth. Other colors may be appropriate too; which ones depends on the feeling you want people to take away from seeing your logo.
The imagery, if any, you use in your design must work in conjunction with the typefaces and colors. Only use imagery if it says something graphically better than words, or words alone, can. Moreover, it should not be clip art, free or otherwise, found on the internet. Clip art, by nature unoriginal, makes a logo that is generic and easily replicated by similar businesses. Any graphics you opt for should be specially created for you.
