Printing Promotional Logo Design
Get a logo that imprints itself in customers’ minds
As part of the printing or promotional industry, you know how important it is to look good. One tiny error can ruin an otherwise perfect project. Your logo works much the same say. If it’s not perfect, and if it’s not memorable, it can mean the difference between a customer who contacts you and one who heads to the competition instead.
Creating a logo that meets these criteria can seem tricky at first, but it doesn’t have to be. Because making a superb first impression is so important, it’s worth spending a little time to craft the logo that works best for your business.
What makes a successful printing or promotional logo?
As a printing or promotions professional, you know that a logo needs to look its best no matter how it’s scaled, from the tiniest lapel pin to the largest billboard. More than that, though, it needs to be unmistakably yours. No cookie-cutter design will work, especially for a company dedicated to making other companies’ branding look flawless. To ensure your design is unique to you — yet looks great on a souvenir pen, a glossy brochure, a delivery vehicle or even the side of a building — consider the various elements that make up its design.
Typography is particularly important, as you want your logo to be legible at any size. But beyond that, what feelings does it evoke? Scripted fonts show elegance and class, and might be well-suited to a company that focuses on wedding- and birth-related printing projects. Sans serif and modern fonts, of course, scale up or down a little more easily, and they might be appropriate for a company that wants to show off its versatility and professionalism, or that handles a lot of corporate clients. If your business primarily works with lighthearted or celebratory items — party favors, retail packaging and festive banners, for example — an untraditional or even slightly wacky typeface could be the way to go.
Your color options are just as limitless. If you’re a printer, showcasing a rainbow of colors could be a smart move. Likewise, you may choose to focus on just one or two colors, particularly if they tie in with your business name or otherwise highlight an aspect of what you do. If you pride yourself on being environmentally friendly, greens and browns may lend themselves. Another option is to incorporate the four printing colors (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow) into a creative combination.
Don’t forget graphics or images. Pens, printing presses, dyes, pages, and books can be depicted in your design, realistically or in a stylized manner. That said, graphic elements aren’t always necessary, but in this very visual industry, they’re more common than not.
No matter which direction you go in, your logo needs to be an extension of your business. If it isn’t suited to you, and you alone, it’s a missed opportunity. With a glance, it should tell viewers who you are and what you do, and imply a level of expertise that invites them to contact you. Separate yourself from the pack by getting it right.
