Small Business Stories: Amesbury Industrial Supply
In our “Small Business Stories” series, we hit the road to interview small business owners about their unique journeys. Each story provides inspiration and insights while shining a spotlight on the passionate small business owners who are so critical to our economies and our communities.
After serving in the air force, Greg Jardis moved back to Amesbury, Massachusetts to work at his father’s hardware store. In 1973, when his father decided to sell, Greg purchased the store and began operating Amesbury Industrial Supply.
Greg attributes a lot of his success to his incredibly knowledgeable staff, who between them have over 183 years of combined service. As a small-town hardware store, it’s hard for Greg to compete with the big box stores on the outskirts of town. But what sets him apart is the incredible amount of inventory he has. Some of the big box stores in the area are even known to send customers to Amesbury Industrial Supply when they don’t have what the customer needs.
In addition to his wide array of inventory, Greg also gives back to the community of Amesbury, with 10% of his gross profit each year going back to local nonprofits and charities. He believes this is an important part of being a business in a small community, giving back to those who support him most.
Being in a small town, a lot of Greg’s customers are third and fourth generation, with their parents and grandparents having gone there since its inception. Their amazing staff, incredible selection and genuine care for all customers, makes Amesbury Industrial Supply a successful business that people want to visit.
